"A Lesson In Intensity"

Show: August 11, 2008 @ MOD Club, Toronto, ON.
By: Stephen McGill
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are one of the great rock and roll bands still touring right now, and the fact that they booked a show at the MOD Club after filling the Kool Haus last year was quite a shock. This was reflected by the fact that the tickets sold extremely quickly, leaving many without a ticket.

Opening the night was Toronto indie band Stirling, whose style seemed to be a combination of basically every trendy indie band around at the moment. They also managed to sound remarkably British despite being from the area. However their brand of indie rock was certainly very enjoyable, and despite a pretty low turn out at the start of the night and a short set they certainly made the most of it.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club was up next and opening with '666 Conducer' off of their latest record "Baby 81" they set a high bar that they managed to not only meet but exceed for the rest of the evening. As of this tour BRMC are using Leah from the Raveonettes as their touring drummer and she proved extremely capable of meetings the bands high standards. The time the pace of the show dropped was when the band dipped into material off their third album "Howl" which was criticised for having a more stripped down sound. However apart from these dips in momentum the show was a sonic onslaught which lasted for 2 and a half hours before finally coming to an end.
