"Third Times The Charm With Dead And Divine"
Dead-And-Divine
By: Katie Campanella
I got the chance to meet up with Chris LeMasters; guitarist and entertaining blog-writer of Dead and Divine, before their sold-out Hamilton show at the Casbah to talk a little bit about their newest album, and being on tour. Dead and Divine recently released their first full-length album entitled The Machines We Are, it is a must-listen for new, and old fans alike.
Let’s start with who you are and what you do in the band.
I’m Chris, and I play guitar in the band.
Who or what were your inspirations while recording this record.
Absolutely none- - no, we’ve always been huge fans of bands like Poison the Well, so obviously bands like that. We definitely wanted to write something song structured, so we tried to focus on that, so we listened to a lot of alt-rock bands like the Deftones, and Smashing Pumpkins.
So, who writes the lyrics?
Matt writes all of our lyrics and everything.
This is the second tour of the summer, right?
Oh man, I think so, I don’t remember.
Do you like touring?
Yea, if I didn’t like touring, I’d probably be fucked and probably wouldn’t be in this band.
What are the worst parts of being on tour?
Not so much anymore, but the worst parts would have to be having to sleep in your van on hot summer nights. Being broke is always terrible. Now things are okay, which is kind of nice to go on tour and have a hotel and stuff. Honestly though, all of that stuff is part of touring, so I can’t really complain or else I’d be an asshole.
Your vans been known to let you guys down a lot, how has it been holding up lately?
It’s been good, we’ve been crazy busy promoting our new record and everything.
Do you have a favourite song to play live off this album?
I’d say Mechanical Orchestra ‘cause there’s a heavy part and kids always jump around to it.
You guys have sold out a couple of shows now, I’m guessing it’s a little different than the small fan base you once had in Bulrington.
Yea, it’s really weird. A lot of the shows on this tour have sold out and I honestly think that the last three or four Ontario tours we’ve played have sold out. It’s weird, but yea, it’s rad.
Anything to add before we split?
Check out our record on Distort, it came out August 4th, so check it out and buy so we can spend money on bullshit.
Well, it’s been a pleasure. Thank you very much.
No, thank you.
