"Rock n Roll Ain’t Dead!"
Invermier
By: Meghan Gribben
I caught up with half of North York’s Invermier at the Kathedral on the 4th. They have been together and touring Toronto and outside of Toronto for a year and a half now and are currently working on their full-length album as well as planning their upcoming tour across Ontario in July. Jeff Parker, their manager, was also present after the show to get a few words outside in the unusually cold and windy April weather.

Invermier is:
Elli -Vocals/Lead Guitar
Alex - Vocals/Guitar
Pat - Bass/Vocals
Tyler - Drums
WGTS: I need you guys to introduce yourselves, and what you do in Invermier.
Alex: Sure. I’m Alex, and I play guitar and split the vocals with Mr. Elli here.
Elli: And I’m Elli, oh sorry, Mr. Elli, and I play lead guitar and the other half of the vocals in Invermier.
WGTS: How did you guys get started, how did you meet?
Alex: I used to play in a band with Tyler and Pat who are the drummer and bass player, a long time ago. We’ve played in a number of bands together…went through a couple of singers…then we came across Elli, and he plays really well on guitar and can write really good songs—
Elli: Well, actually, if I remember correctly, your band broke up and then started a new one which you joined after.
Alex: Same thing, it’s the same thing. You can decipher that however way you want.
WGTS: I will.
Being in a band—has that always been a goal for you, or are you going to school for other things?
Alex: I’m in school for audio engineering, so music is what I plan to do for the rest of my life. I’ve been playing in bands since I was 13 years old, since I was allowed to come to the clubs.
Elli: I’ve been in a band since I was six years old, I started playing guitar very, very early.
WGTS: That’s grade two, right?
Elli: Right.
WGTS: I read that you guys had recorded an album. What’s that all about?
Alex: It was just a three song demo that we had just so that we could have something to put up on MySpace. Currently we are working on our full-length, it’s called “This End Up.”
Elli: It’s a little mailman joke from Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura Pet Detective. UPS!
Jeff: HDS, HDS!
Alex: It should be done within the next four months. It’s a lengthy process.
WGTS: You guys are with Give-Em-Hell, actually that’s you, right?
Jeff: Yeah.
WGTS: And that’s a promotional company?
Jeff: It’s sort of like an all encompassing management-promotion-design company. Pretty much [Invermier] can be with the company and just focus on the creative aspects, and I take care of all the bitch work.
WGTS: You guys are going on an upcoming tour in May?
Jeff: Well, in July we are tentatively scheduled, we are working on confirming dates and such, but our goal would be to at least do a couple weeks on the road in July. Play throughout Ontario and preferably Montreal and a few others. This tour would be just to get the name out there, sell some merch and CD’s.
WGTS: Are you guys excited about this?
Alex: Oh yeah.
WGTS: Is this going to be your first long-haul tour?
Alex: Yeah, definitely. We’ve played out of the city before but to be on tour is pretty much our ultimate goal. If we could make that happen that would probably be the coolest thing.
Elli: Actually, one of many goals, Alex. Once the tour happens, the other goals will just fall into place.
Alex: World domination being key.
WGTS: I guess that’s it, would you like to say anything in closing?
Alex: Well, we’d like to thank We Go To Shows for helping us out with this interview.
Elli: And, stay tuned for more from us. We’re going to be everywhere, like the next Backstreet Boys and by Backstreet Boys I mean our faces plastered everywhere.
Invermier will be playing May 24th at Clinton’s Tavern in Toronto.
