Now to be honest I never heard of the band Tunturia before. I didn’t know where they were from, how many people were in the band, or even what type of music they played. Their promo package was given to me for review, and I must say that even though I didn’t know what to expect, I was extremely satisfied with the purity that is Tunturia’s EP “Maps.”

They are an instrumental band; a band that blur the lines between psychedelic, progressive rock and the experimental genius of ambient. With the use of synth, several guitar pedals, and smooth drumming, Tunturia are the perfect band to chill you right out after a hard day and a fat joint. Picture if you will, a musical combination of Pink Floyd meets Angels & Airwaves meets Thrice’s Vheissu. As I said originally, they are an instrumental band, and surprisingly I feel that a vocalist would actually take away from the purifying majesty that is “Maps.”

I really cannot think of my favorite track at the moment, every song is so unique and surprisingly none of them drag on. The most impressive part of “Maps” is the length of each song. They range from two minutes to an astonishing fourteen. It would be quite the spectacle to see them play this album front to back live, and I truly hope that I get the chance sometime soon.

The only negative thing I can say about this album, is that in my opinion the people who do not understand the process of musicianship may find this album to be utterly boring…. Dare I say the “general public?”

Yet in the end, I feel privileged having the opportunity to review this disc.
